Welcome to this phase of me

Hi Everybody!
For those of you who don't know, alot has been going on in my life and God has shown me what He has planned for my near future.

I have had the desire to participate in missions work for some time and God has opened doors to allow me to do so in more than one way beginning this summer.

Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. Matthew 25:30

This verse has been on my heart and I know it  doesn't necessarily have to refer to those in underdeveloped countries, but God has placed the people less fortunate than me on my heart to serve.

This summer, Lord's willing, I'll be going on a short missions trip to La Romana in the Dominican Republic. The trip will take place from July 1-9.  I will be going with a group from First Baptist Church in Wallingford, CT. I am asking for your prayers and thoughts as we as a group prepare for our trip and prepare to the serve the people of La Romana. We will be involved in a large number of projects, including helping build parts of a hospital, creating clean water filters in the bateys, rebuilding homes, serving in health clinics, distributing food and clothing and many more. I am very excited about this opportunity and very excited to see how God will use us to glorify His name while serving the people of La Romana.

I thank you in advance for your prayers.

My second trip is a dream come true for me. Since graduating from nursing school, two years ago, I have wanted to use my nursing abilities to provide healthcare to people of under developed countries. I was very interested in joining the US Navy knowing that they had hospital boats that travel to countries and provide care in other countries. Having not received much encouragement to join the military, I looked into other ways to fulfill my goal.

That is when I first discovered Mercy Ships. It is a global Christian organization that provides healthcare and performs surgeries in third world countries on hospital ships. I contacted them upon graduation and was encouraged to get two years of nursing experience then reexplore the idea of serving in such a capacity. Holding onto this goal, I have worked on a surgical floor at the Hospital of St. Raphael and even got a second job at a physicians' office as an infusion nurse to develop my nursing skills and abilities with the mindset that I was preparing for this opportunity. My two years will be up in July and I have applied with Mercy Ships and will be volunteering for three months as a nurse on the Africa Mercy, a hospital ship that goes to Africa to provide healthcare and lifesaving operations to the people there. This year the ship is in Sierra Leone and Lord's willing I will be serving on the ship from August 22 to December 2.

I will be resigning from my jobs here in CT as I go to Sierra Leone. I'm excited to see all that God has planned for me and how He will use me as I desire to serve Him in this way.

I ask for your prayers as I prepare for this portion of my life.

Because there are so many of you involved in my life that I would love to keep informed of my adventures :) and it would be difficult to share my experiences with each of you individually, I plan on keeping a blog to keep everyone updated on my trips and to share my experiences with you. Please be patient with me, as I am new to blogging and really have little idea of how this works. Cool. So that's the update on me.

Enjoy!

In His service,
Apphia
